Discrimination is shown in the novella Of Mice and Men through many characters. The story takes place in Soledad, California during the 1930s, around the time of the Great Depression. Characters George Milton and Lennie Smalls, a huge, child-like man, search for a job at a ranch after something went wrong at their old job. Once they get to their new job, Lennie becomes fascinated with Curley’s wife, which is the boss’s daughter-in-law. He also makes friends with the â€Å"stable buck†, an African American man who lives in a barn on the ranch alone.
